TROUBLESHOOTING
SPA WATER MAINTENANCE
Maintaining proper water chemical balance is critical to your health and enjoyment.
Marquis recommends that you use an ozonator (optional on Leisure and Recreational
Series, standard on Coastal and Ultimate Series) along with the proper sanitizers.

RECOMMENDED CHEMICAL LEVELS
Bromine 2 - 3 ppm
Chlorine 2 - 3 ppm
Alkalinity 50 - 150 ppm
pH Level 7.2 - 7.6
(C) CAUSE AND (S) SOLUTIONS TO WATER MAINTENANCE
CLOUDY WATER
C: Inadequate filtration or dirty filter.
S: Check that the filter is securely attached. Clean or replace filter.
C: Water is not chemically balanced.
S: SHOCK the spa with Shock Treatment and test water with a Water Test Strip.
Adjust sanitizer level, pH, and alkalinity levels as needed.
C: Unfiltered particles or chemically saturated water.
S: Use Crystal Clear Clarifier to combine particles; or drain the spa, clean and refill.
CHEMICAL ODOR
C: Too many chloramines/bromamines in the water.
S: Shock water with Shock Treatment then adjust sanitizer level as necessary.
MUSTY ODOR
C: Not enough sanitizer in water – bacteria or algae in water.
S: Add sanitizer as necessary and SHOCK SANITIZE. Readjust sanitizer level after
shock sanitizing, if necessary.
YELLOW WATER
C: Low pH.
S: Adjust pH with pH and Alkalinity Increase.
FOAMING
C: High concentration of body oils, lotions, or soaps as well as high temperatures
and excessive contaminants.
S: Use Foam Eliminator and adjust pH and sanitizer levels as needed.
SCUM LINE IN SPA
C: Body oils and dirt.
S: Use Spa Perfect once a week to break down oils and lotions to prevent scum
from forming.
